President of Israel
Ceremonial head of state of Israel, elected by the Knesset for a seven-year term. The president plays a critical procedural role in coalition formation: after an election or government collapse, the president designates a Knesset member (almost always a party leader) to attempt to form a government, and may designate a second if the first fails. The office is formally above party politics.
